Sunday January 23rd to Jan. 30th 2011

Well, the wind died down and we got out for our first golf game with just the two of us!!!!!  I think we danced too hard last night because we both had a few aches and pains that interfered with our game. Monday I enjoyed a golf game with Carolyn and Del while B golfed with Dave, Dennis and Lou. Tuesday I had yet another golf lesson, this time with Claude and later in the morning we had a golf game with Ron and Gail.
Wednesday we went to Slab City with Don & Ingrid, Steve & Nola. We had a great day but we all came away with the same feelings that we just would not spend a single night in Slab City!!!! It is the 2000 version of the movie "Deliverance".  At Salvation Mountain we met Leonard the creator (so to speak).  He is a delightful 79 year old man that is wrapped up in God.  We got to walk his "
Yellow Brick Road
" up the side of his mountain and you worried the whole way up that his mountain could collapse at any given moment.  We survived to tell the tail! We all did a late lunch at Appleby’s they back to our place for drinks.
Today B did his bike ride and I did a 10 km bike ride with Del. She really moves along for 74 years of age.  We had a tee time at 12:45 for another golf game just the two of us.....but as I looked down from the ladies T to see B there were two other men there!!....Cliff and Claude!!!!! Two really good golfers!  Well that was heart attack city for me, but it all turned out very well.  Cliff has a bad back and was trying to work it out, so was just a tad off his usually game, so I became very comfortable. Claude, well he is my instructor.  I did have one of my better games though!
Tonight we had Happy Hour with Carolyn, Warren, Pat, Bob, Ron and Gail came home for supper then went to the activities centre and had two games of pool...not great so came home quickly!  B was in bed watching TV at 8:14..!  Friday we golfed with Ron and Gail and invited the BC group over for Happy Hour with us! Saturday was a pool day with great weather and we went to our “Last Dance” at Rio Bend.  We truly do get a good work out on the dance floor.  Today, Sunday we are having terrible weather; high winds and overcast, but did manage to get the laundry done.  Monday we will return our Time Warner modem so that’s it for internet for 2 weeks.  Feb. 1st  is a travel day to Yuma.  Our location in the foothills (
13699 - 47th Drive, Yuma
) does not have internet, but we will go to McDonalds or the library periodically to check for news.  We will try to carry our phones regularly!
Hugs to all,
R&B

January 15th to January 23rd Sunday

We did more pool time; golfing and I had another golf lesson.  Weather has been wonderful. We enjoyed a live performance called “Laughing Bird” put on by a husband and wife team that sing, play several instruments and do their comedy routine.  Carol & Larry left on the 17th for Yuma; we’ll join them Feb. 1st.
Wednesday (Jan.19) we drove to San Diego arriving in just 60 degree weather and fog!  We toured Pacific Beach and Mission Beach; had lunch there before going to the La Pensione Hotel in Little Italy, then walked to the Horton Plaza. We did memory lane supper at Filippi’s Restaurant.  Thursday we had an excellent 6 hours at the San Diego Zoo and I think we saw it all.  I have 132 pictures!  The weather was great sun shine and high 70's.  Friday morning we drove over to Coronado Island, then south on Hwy 75 down to Imperial Beach and said farewell to the Pacific Ocean!  We cut across county to the
Otay Lake Road
over to Hwy 94 to Campo, joined up with 1-8 again.  Hwy 94 has one pile of Homeland Security people because it is so close to the Mexico border! Anyway, it was a good trip.
Saturday, we went to the Calexico flea market and got the fresh roasted peanuts, so we are stocked up for a good long time now! What a junky place that is, so bad I didn't even walk into any of the tents, just walked on by!  Got back in time for string golfing; they had 4 set up and a lot of people turned up for the 3:00 game. Warren and I lost our first two games, so we got to watch all the fun and be the cheering section.
Saturday night we went to the cafe for supper; wings and potato skins. Our food arrived on time, this time! The dance was great and we lived up to our reputation as "The Dancing Fools" and came home all sweaty! Don thinks I am the energizer bunny on the dance floor!  We did not sign up for Cliff's Sunday golf today, but thought we might try to have a game, just the two of us a little later. Temp is going to 77 today, but we are having some wind gusts whipping around at the moment.
Well that's your update for now!  Some pictures to share...

Jan. 6 to January 15th 2011

We enjoyed today, went to the driving range and hit a bucket of balls, went to the pool, enjoyed two hours of sun and conversation with others.  Did a long walk before joining Marc & Heather to watch the Junior Hockey game between Canada & Russia on their outdoor TV...left at the end of the second 3-0 Canada, only to find out that Canada lost 5-3.  Who would have thought it would turn out that way...  :(Next day we went for an hour long walk, talked with some friends from last year who just arrived. We joined a group of about 20 for a String Golf game.
It's been one thing after another!  Golf games, putter's challenge, string golfing, bonfire night, pool time, cafe suppers and golf course lunches....
The Saturday night dance was a 10, we lived up to our reputation as the "Dancing Fools".
We had a mixed golf game Sunday morning and had a social potluck at 3:30.  That's when we found out who the best male & female golf team.   Del and I will got $3 for the hardest working women on the course!  That being said, we got the booby prize.  Saturday, today was boil in the bag omelette breakfast and the “walk, talk and shop” plus we have a tee off at 12:30 with Carol and Larry.  Oh yes and the Saturday dance is tonight.
Hugs to All,

December 13 to Jan. 06, 2011

Monday girl’s golf game with Jackie, Marilee and Del --- fun time, we are all about the same level so I was pretty comfortable with them.
Tuesday, my golf lesson with Ben and it was bad!  B, Larry and Dave were out golfing too and they had a good time. We meet for lunch at the club house.  Third golf day for them, so have decided to take Wednesday off.
Wednesday and we girls (Jackie, Carol, Carolyn and me) went off for our $25 pedicures; lunch at Chili’s and a little shopping.  It was only 72 today with wind, but it cleared Sunday.  Marc & Heather arrived Wednesday, Lou & Marge arrived Saturday, so the gang is rolling in and we had a large group for happy hour on Saturday.
I had a couple of lady’s golf games; it was fun – no pressure!  I actually made a couple of good shots. We had a good dance on Saturday evening and Sunday B & I, along with Carol & Larry had our Christmas dinner, turkey and all the trimmings, plus exchanged presents.
Monday B departed for Christmas in Ottawa!  Carol and Larry drove us to the Yuma airport.
B had a wonderful Christmas in Ottawa with his Mom, daughters and granddaughter.  I enjoyed my Christmas with a wonderful group of friends. B returned to the USA without any problems, so our greatest fear did not materialize.  2011 and we are good to go!
January is starting off very busy, Imperial Valley Softball games for B and more golf lessons plus pool time for me! Temperature is warming and we have been getting a couple of afternoon hours by the pool.  Went to the driving range and hit a bucket of balls.  Tomorrow a game I think!
Life is good,
Hugs to all,
