Oct. 4, Monday

We arrived at the Box K Repair Shop at 8:15 am, got our paper work done and went to the 42 Street Café for Breakfast.  That took an hour and then we returned to the garage.  Idler for fan belt needs to be replaced as well as the fan belt, but, of course no one on the peninsula had the idler part in stock.  So it’s on order and will be here tomorrow morning.  So we are sleeping in the back parking lot at the garage.  Nice thing, the Café beside us has internet that we can log into!!
We decided to go to Oregon at 9:45, drove in drizzle south on Highway 101 to Cannon Beach which was only 40 miles.   The sky cleared up some and the drizzle stopped long enough for us to walk the beach and get pictures of the Haystack Rock.  It towers 235’ over the beach at water’s edge.  We then back tracked stopping at the town of Seaside. We visited the Tourist Bureau and walked the main street to the water’s edge, but was just a bit too windy.  Found a new Costco on route.  We arrived in Astoria and went to the Astoria Column.  We climbed the 164 steps to the top and got some great pictures of the long bridge joining Washington State to Oregon.  Astoria had the Norwegian Sun Tour ship docked and there was a bus load at the Column.  We drove to the waterfront on the Columbia River, travelled
Marine Drive
(Hwy 30) and found a Safeway Grocery store, so got stocked up once more.  The price of groceries we found very expensive at Long Beach, even gas $3.12 while Seaside was only $2.92 per gallon.
Today we had a high temp of 62 degrees.  The weather report for tomorrow looks better – sun and 68 for a couple of days! (J)(J)
Two bar internet service will not allow me to add a couple of pictures....maybe tomorrow.
