We are on the road 6 days already. We left Ottawa Sept. 1 and drove to Sault St. Marie US (12 hrs), then to Duluth, next Fargo then Bismarck. We've been in Bismarck North Dakota for three days visiting my cousin Lyall. We had quite the day on Sunday, Lyall/Karen insisted on taking us to Medora (2 hrs away) to the final night of their outdoor dinner theatre. We departed Bismarck at 12 noon, stopping along the way to see the Painted Canyon, then into Medora and the Theodore Roosevelt National Park, Chateau de Mores State Historic site, the De Mores summer home and the town. We had been having rain on and off the best part of the day, but by the time we sat down for our steak fondue supper at the Burning Hills Amphitheatre restaurant, the sun was out and it looked like it would be a perfect evening for outdoor theatre. NOT SO. At about 8:15, 15 minutes before show time the sky opened up and I truly have never seen rain drops the size of tunies before! And it just didn't quit, so 1/2 hr later we packed it in, no show, no refunds, cold and damp and sadly started our 2 hours drive back to Bismarck. Since Lyall and Karen insisted on paying for the supper and show we felt that much worse!
Today, holiday Monday, we met them at 11:15 and joined them and two other couples for brunch. One couple from Shrelanka (?) 10 years ago and the other from Bismarck about to sell out and moving to the Villages in Florida. Great time, nice people.
Tomorrow we are hoping to make Custer, Montana, then Yellowstone. The plan is to slowly work our way to Seattle, stay a couple of weeks, then Oregon for another few weeks, LA and San Fran for another few weeks, and maybe Borrego Springs for late November, but for sure El Centro by Dec. 15ish!
It's been raining here all night and all day, so we have said our goodbyes to cousin Lyall and are having a relaxing afternoon and evening inside where it is dry!
Hugs
